Sun Inn, The DescriptionAnother good example of a small group taking over a small number of pubs in ample need of renovation and transforming them into a something which meets people\\\'s aspirations and makes money for the owners, leaving all concerned thoroughly happy. If only life was always that simple.
The Sun Inn has taken on a new lease of life to become one of the most popular places in town with a large and attractive menu, that makes a point of offering only freshly cooked food and is big on steaks burgers, but not burgers as we have all too often come to know them in recent times. No, these are burgers as Mother would have made them, not that I can ever remember mine really trying - perhaps the rot had already set in by then.
Start with Italian beef carpaccio, wafer thin slices of home cured fillet beef served with rocket leaves, parmesan and drizzled with olive oil. Smoked salmon always makes a good starter - here it is served with warm new potatoes, and a lemon and chive cream sauce that does not smother the salmon in anonymity.
Whilst on the subject of seafood keep a lookout for the Cajun prawns served out of their shells, six of the little beauties cooked in a creamy Cajun sauce and served on a bed of Basmati rice. When a menu talks about \\\'rustic\\\' rolls I become a little wary but these are great and you get one when you order the chef\\\'s homemade soup of the day, or the classic moules marinière and some of the other ten or so starters.
If you are in a friendly group of up to five consider the The Sun Inn\\\'s finger munchies, a selection of nibbles served with garlic, mayonnaise and spicy tomato salsa. If you are more than five, well, just do the sums. It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase \\\"high fives\\\". The Sun does a good range of salads, including that staple favourite, a Ploughman\\\'s, with seafood, salad niçoise and roast pepper varieties not far behind.
Which brings us to the speciality of the house, the steaks. Basically you choose your type and size of steak, how you would like it cooked and what sauce you would like with it - simple as that. All you have to bother about is what you would like to have with it in the way of extras - leaving you free to concentrate on your companion. However, if inspiration is at a low ebb they have helpfully suggested some of the great steaks of all time, such as tournedos Rossini, a carpetbagger or a Stilton or cheddar melt New York strip.
As with other pubs in the group, their motto is encouraging, \\\"please note that we don\\\'t do fast food, we do good food as fast as we can\\\". Equally reassuring is their mission statement on the burgers \\\"all our burgers are half pound pure beef burgers made by our own butcher to our recipe . . . . .\\\"
Here again there are decisions to be made, single or double and what you would like with it. Top of the range is the double Cajun chicken burger, and they all come with a mouth-watering range of extras.
The only real problem you are likely to encounter at The Sun is the question of choice, particularly when you know that whatever you order, inevitably you will see something you like even more when the waiters come round. But it\\\'s a nice way to go. The Sun is excellent value for money, as so many gastropubs are, the atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, to find out more a visit to their Website is thoroughly recommended. Bon appetit!
